When you want your concrete to have a smooth and shiny look to it than polished concrete is the perfect thing for you. This process gives your concrete slab a finished and intentional look to the otherwise rough surface. The concrete is ground to get it from a rough, dull slab to the smooth polished surface. This is done in a series of steps such as a grind, polish, and stain. Plus, when you go with polished concrete, you are going with what is known as sustainable design flooring. Polished concrete is an excellent approach to your new home or build.
Benefits of Polished Concrete
As mentioned above polished concrete is known as a sustainable flooring surface or green option. What does this mean? Well, it is because you are not using another material to create your flooring. By using the concrete that is already there you save on material cost and waste. Therefore, you are helping the environment by not needed additional building materials. Also, when it comes to the maintenance of a floor; polished concrete is low compared to other flooring surfaces. It is more durable as all concrete is and much easier to clean than other surfaces. It has even been shown to reduce the collecting of dust mites and potential allergen problems. Even mold cannot grow on polished concrete. Some have also said that polished concrete will reduce the need for light use and allow more natural lighting. Finally, the last benefit of polished concrete is that like all concrete it will last many years to come when compared to the maximum of twenty years for other types of flooring.
How Polished Concrete is Achieved
As we have mentioned before polished concrete is achieved by process of grinding and polishing. Just like with any other material such as wood, our team will use increasingly higher grits to smooth out your surface form the first evening out to really buffering the surface. Once the grits hits are around 800 grit is when you could call it a day and be polished concrete. However, for those who truly want a floor that shines, we can polish the concrete with grits at 1500 and even up 3000. Finally, once we get your concrete to the smoothness that you desire a hardener is added, and the surface is sealed to prevent any future damage. Not to mention taking that polish to another level. Even with polished concrete, we can give you some great decorative patterns to give an individualistic design that says this is your own space.
We Can Work with Your Surface
The concrete also does not have to be new for us to make it into polished concrete. In fact, by polishing an older slab, we can often take the old looking space and make it look better than when it was brand new. That is because now it’s a polished concrete surface that is plain or colored with even possible design details included.
There are so many possibilities with concrete and polished concrete is one fantastic way that turns the dull slab into something you would want to show off.
